Rick Warren, The Roman Catholic Mass & The Inquisition

RWarren CatholicRoman Catholic Professor at Sapienza University in Rome and Historian, Agostino Borromeo, has recently edited a 783-page Report on the Roman Catholic Inquisition, issued by the Vatican. For context, the Inquisition lasted over 12 centuries, from 606 A.D., into the 1800’s [it was not abolished in Spain until 1820).

The Report claims two amazing ‘facts.’ 1) that only 1% of the 125,000 people tried by the Church courts as suspected heretics in Spain, were executed. In fact history reports that ALL who were accused and tried as heretics either recanted or were tortured to death. The discrepancy? The Church most often turned the guilty over to civil authorities for execution. NOTE: The Church held sway over civil authorities, both ecclesiastic and civil — throughout Europe.

Careful and reputable historians estimate the number slaughtered for the crime of “heresy” by Roman persecutors, between AD 606 and the middle of the 19th Century, to be about 50 million! [John Dowling, “History of Romanism,” 1847 [Bk VII, Chapter 1, footnote 1]

The Crime? NOT believing / adhering to Roman Catholic Doctrine! Which is? The Mass.

In Roman theology nothing is higher or more critical than The Mass: the unbloody sacrifice of Jesus Christ…..again and again and again… Over the millennia the various Catholic Churches have changed all sorts of things: worship of saints, meat on Friday, entering a Protestant or non-Catholic Church and many more. But one thing has Never Changed: The Mass.

No Catholic can hope to go to Heaven who does not confess his/her sins to a priest and participate in ‘communion.’ At this ‘communion,’ the elements (wine and bread) are mystically transformed into the actual Blood and Body of Christ…which is then ‘broken’ and ‘shed’ for your sin.

It is the height of unbelief and /or apostasy to do so, however, according to the scriptures. Consider Hebrews, chapter 6, verses 4 through 6

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Catholics will object and refer to the several ways an apostate or non-practicing catholic can receive “extreme unction,’ as they lay dying. However, the issue is people living in Catholic countries and not believing in ‘extreme unction.’ What is left for him / her? And the key issue remains: these priests are offering up Jesus a second, third, fourth time for sin!

Romans 6:8-10 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Protestants and all sorts of non-catholics reject catholicism, not because of The Inquisition, but because their Core Doctrines are so unbiblical as to be spiritually dangerous. The Pomp and Circumstance, along with the dedication of priests and nuns, keep many from either noticing or being critical of these doctrinal errors.

Not so those who actually study The Bible. The average priest will tell you ‘we don’t really study the Bible in Seminary.’ Which makes Rick Warren’s participation in a Roman Catholic Mass all the more confusing. Which makes Rick Warren’s endorsement of a Book encouraging Catholics to “Come Home’ to The Church all the more egregious — unless he knows something YOU don’t!!

Rick Warren HAS studied The Bible, in Seminary. He HAS taught The Bible. He HAS stood for biblical doctrines that deny the Mass. His Membership in and Leadership of Southern Baptists is in direct opposition to The Mass and all it stands for! Not the kind of opposition that says ‘what I believe is different,’ but the kind that says, ‘what I believe is CONTRARY! It’s not different, it’s opposite! To be opposite Bible Doctrine is to be opposite God!

The casual Christian will say all this is a ‘tempest-in-a-teapot;’ that the arguments are sectarian or that it is a disagreement among brothers. NO it’s NOT! This argument is at the CORE of all we believe, as Christians.

Am I saved by the blood of The Lord Jesus Christ, shed once for my sin? Or am I saved by adhering to a continuing litany of behaviors?

Am I saved by God’s Grace, through Faith, not of Works, lest any man should boast (Eph. 2:8-9)? Or am I saved by the work of priests, interceding between me and God, on my behalf?

During the thousand years, or so, of the Inquisition, men and women died horrible deaths at the hands of men who believed what the Catholic Church teaches TODAY! What compels people to endure vicious torment, over days, months and even years, rather than merely give in to a harmless difference of opinion?

TRUTH? It is NOT simply a ‘harmless difference of opinion!’ It is a doctrine diametrically opposite The Bible and everything the Church of Jesus Christ stands for! As late as 400 AD, men like Augustine of Hippo were eloquently arguing and defending biblical doctrine. He is still considered a venerable saint of The Church. What happened?

With the fall of Rome, the popes pandered to the various noblemen of Europe, offering them wealth and blessings in return for power. In 800 A.D. Pope Leo II crowned the French king, Charlemagne, “King of The Holy Roman Empire,” thus establishing that mystical / spiritual entity.

Over the next 700 years popes dominated the kings & queens of Europe, holding them hostage to heaven: Peter now, supposedly having the Keys to The Kingdom. A concept created out of whole cloth! First year Greek students can tear that argument to shreds and not break a sweat!

Rick Warren is helping to set The Stage. Watch this pope and how easily he becomes a global, spiritual, influence even among non-catholics.
