Rehabilitating The Devil

FOX TV has announced a New Show for next year featuring a bored Satan who leaves his throne and retires to Los Angeles, where he owns an upscale nightclub, named LUX. He is characterized as “charismatic and devilishly charming, by the Fox website.

When a murder occurs outside the nightclub, Lucifer becomes involved to help solve the case, with his demonic influence, and is torn between good and evil as he is summoned back to Hell by God.

A young, female, detective by the name of Chloe impresses Lucifer with her “inherent goodness.” Confronted by Chloe’s “apparent purity” he begins to wonder if there’s hope for his own soul yet.

The number of false and deceptive ideas about Satan are too numerous to mention. Suffice it to say, he is being rehabilitated by this TV production for reasons one can only guess. Who is it?  What is it that stands to benefit from making Lucifer, the enemy of God and man, look good….or at least sympathetic?

No one knows anything about Satan (Lucifer) aside from what The Bible says of him. To make him into something else is not simply poetic license it is damnable, given the issues involved. However, it comes as No Surprise!

The Bible tells us that, as he sees his time shortened, Satan becomes more animated and obvious in his effort to deceive men and defeat God’s purposes.  Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.  Rev. 12:12

This doesn’t sound like a being who ‘retires’ or is ever ‘bored,’ let alone sympathetic. The Bible portrays Satan as the Arch-Enemy of God with an intense hatred toward humanity. If there are any humans whom he does not simply hate, they are Christians. These he detests with an unholy passion!

To say some female detective impresses him with her ‘inherent goodness’ is to say she’s not human! The Bible says ALL humans are without goodness, on any level. We are described as having hearts which are ‘desperately wicked and deceitful above all things‘ [Jer. 17:9].  That we were ‘shapen in iniquity.‘  [Ps 51:5]  That, when it comes to human beings, ‘there is none righteous…No! Not even One!’  [Rom. 3:10]

What will unlearned men and women do with these concepts? What will impressionable young people do with these concepts? How will such a concept impact our society? I believe everyone reading this blog already knows the answer: It will soften Satan’s persona and cause people to be even less fearful of him and of sin!

Is that The Goal? If we’re talking about the originators, producers, writers, the answer is a guarded NO!  However, if we’re talking about the “prince of the power of the air, the god of this world,” [Eph. 2:2] the answer is a resounding YES!

If Satan reveals himself as he really is, people would die of sheer fright! By revealing himself as simply the enemy of God or the prince of darkness, he gets a pass. More so as these concepts are whitewashed or made to look over-the-top foolish. Truth has always been Satan’s greatest fear.

The show is entitled simply “Lucifer,”  Lucifer [Isa. 14:12] means “morning star” in Hebrew and describes Satan’s [lit: to withstand; implied: enemy] former glory. Highest of all created beings, the Bible says one day he merely ‘said in his heart, I Will….’ [Isa. 14].

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?  Isa 14:12-17

“I will” is the opposite of “Nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done.” [Lk 22:42] Lucifer has asserted his will over that of The Father. No creature was higher in rank than Lucifer. No creature nearer to God. His power and authority were without question or equal, save that of God Himself. Yet it was not enough! His heart reached out for the forbidden fruit of power and authority, and was struck down!

He is now a defeated foe. One that is destined for the Lake of Fire, forever and ever, and he knows it. This means he has nothing to lose by being as evil as he can be. God, alone, restrains his power, even now. The day is coming when that restraint will be loosened, that he might deceive the nations. He will convince them to fight against God through His people — causing all who refuse to bow to him to die a horrible death.

Today? Today, he is gathering his army. He is recruiting and training that army. He getting ready for the Grand Showdown! Shows like this one are designed (by him) to add to his arsenal of rebels. Rebellion against authority, destruction of the family structure, drugs, sex, homosexuality, false religions, disrespect for human dignity, the lack of love for one another and much more, are all tools / weapons in his arsenal.

All that remains is to see how many fall for this ‘Show,’ just as they have for the many lurid and grotesquely demonic shows currently among the most popular: Grimm, American Horror Story, Sleepy Hollow, The Walking Dead (on Cable), The Originals and The Supernaturals, to mention just a few.

It’s called ‘Setting The Stage.’
