A team of lawyers, acting on behalf of a number of Christian and Liberty-Focued organizations has told the U.S. Supreme Court that to mandate same-sex marriage is to invite God’s judgment, according to Bob Unruh, writing for WND.com
The brief was filed by the William J. Olson law firm and the U.S. Justice Foundation on behalf of Public Advocate of the U.S., Joyce Meyer Ministries, the Lincoln Institute, the Abraham Lincoln Foundation, Institute on the Constitution, Conservative Legal Defense and Education Fund and Pastor Chuck Baldwin.
The Court is due to hear arguments later this month (April, 2015) in a case coming from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in which judges said state residents are allowed to define marriage in their state. The appeal contends barring same-sex marriage violates the U.S. Constitution.
The stated contention is: “Should the court require states and the people to ‘ritualize’ sodomite behavior by government issuance of a state marriage license, it could bring God’s judgment on the nation.” “Holy Scripture attests that homosexual behavior and other sexual perversions violate the law of the land, and when the land is defiled, the people have been cast out of their homes.”
The brief cites Leviticus 18:22 and 24-30 and refers to Sodom and Gomorrah, cities not under Mosaic Law, but nonetheless destroyed for their gross immorality because “their cry,” God said, had “come up and their sin very grievous.” Gen. 18:20
Two Justices (Elena Kagan and Ruth Ginsburg) have already performed homosexual marriages and Ginsburg admitted, in a public interview, she thought the society had pretty much embraced it.
What form of judgment are they talking about? The total destruction of the nation; people included? The biblical story seems to indicate God could not / would not destroy Sodom as long as there remained one righteous soul in it. This is why the angels dragged Lot and his family out.
Remember the bargaining Abraham entered into? 50? 40? 30? 20? 10? I am of the opinion that Abraham stopped before God did.
If I’m right, America will remain as long as there is ONE righteous soul alive. If the complainants are thinking about divine judgment in terms of physical destruction, they are off-base.
However, if they are thinking about another biblical principle, they may be Right On Track!
America is where she is, today, BECAUSE of the Christians who reside in her. Had The Church remained strong — biblically strong — we wouldn’t be where we are! “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” Prov. 14:34
In Paul’s epistle to the Romans, he begins by laying out the reasons behind God’s provision of a Redeemer. Initially he points out every human being’s responsibility to do what they know is right [1:18]. The ‘wrath’ (judgment) of God is upon ALL who — when they know to do right — don’t do it. This is the meaning of the phrase: “hold the truth in unrighteousness.”
What form does this ‘judgment’ take? v.21 “Their foolish heart is darkened.” This is not God singling people out and zapping them an evil judgment! It is simply what happens, in the normal course of events. Of course, God has set it up to work this way in every heart.
If that ‘darkening of heart’ doesn’t get your attention so that you change, God moves v. 24. He turns us over to uncleanness, meaning He allows us to engage in moral impurities. The implication is He’s been protecting us, up to this point. Restraining our natural evil.
If this doesn’t impress us so as to turn our hearts toward God, He relaxes His restraint even more, v. 28. By refusing to ‘retain God in their knowledge,’ God turns them over to a “reprobate” [useless] “mind” to do those things which are not becoming, not fit.
At this point the individual is acting worse than an animal, in that he / she cares only about himself. Their thinking is reprobate, their values are reprobate, their goals are reprobate. Unless it pleases, satisfies, satiates their desires, they want nothing to do with it.
Like what? “Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, v. 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, v. 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: v.32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”
Sounds bad, doesn’t it? This is where the U.S. is, right now! This is where most Church-goers are right now!
Did you see the phrase, “without natural affection?” and “inventors of evil things?” WAKE UP! God’s Judgment is ALREADY upon us! Individually and corporately. What else can God do to us? He’s already turned us over to the base things of our heart!
God is no longer restraining all evil in our lives. That ended when were very young children and were determined to have what we wanted, even though we knew (at the time) it was wrong.
We’ve moved on! Who but a complete imbecile thinks cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, sex-as-entertainment and more, are Right and Good? People cut off from God. People who have sold their souls for a ‘mess of pottage.’ People who are unwilling and now unable to retain God in their minds.
Our Country is being led by such people. Nothing about this country makes sense, from a logical standpoint. The economy; our foreign policy; our laws; our values; our morals; our standards; our entertainment choices? Does any of it seem rational, to you?
Clearly it’s not a matter of intellect, we have some of the smartest people working on our behalf, in every area of life. That they can’t figure it out should get your attention!
There is a Judgment Coming! The Bible predicts a Grand Conflagration over Israel that will draw the entire world into its vortex and destroy it. Close to half the world’s population will die in less than 7 years, culminating with the Return of the King of Kings!
Until then? It will be Business As Usual, meaning things are going to get worse — crazier — before it gets better.
