Sunday, March 29, 2015, HBO will air a Documentary by Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney entitled: “Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief.” This documentary is exposing Scientology as a dangerous cult, both to the adherent’s soul, his mind, his perception of himself and his bank account.
Scientology is the brain-child of sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, stemming from his book: “Dianetics,” which explored the relationship between body and mind, in 1950.
The film is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Lawrence Wright’s 2013 book with an almost identical title. The difference, it is said, allows viewers to look into the eyes of former Scientologists as they describe years of abuse they say they suffered willingly at the hands of the church and the ultimate toll it took: lost relationships, broken lives, empty bank accounts and more, most recently by David Miscavige, who took over after Hubbard died, in 1986.
“Scientologists believe that people are immortal alien beings (called thetans), [gods] who have forgotten their true nature and are trapped on earth in a human body.
Scientologists believe that each thetan has lived numerous past lives, both on earth in our physical bodies, and on other planets. Scientologists also believe that by undergoing a series of classes and teachings (called auditing by the church), people can free themselves of their human form and reclaim their true selves.” http://dummies.com
The advice young people are often given, by those who have been ‘successful’ in this world, is: “You Need To Take Control of Your Destiny.” This is another way of saying: “Don’t let others define you; don’t let yourself be molded into anyone else’s pattern or idea of what’s right and/or good.” In Short: Be Your Own God: The Master of your own fate!
This is nothing more than a variation of Satan’s original challenge to Adam and Eve: ‘God isn’t the Wonderful, Gracious Person you think He is, He is keeping you DOWN with His prohibition regarding the fruit of the Tree of the knowledge of good and of evil. He knows, if you eat of it you (both) shall be as gods…. How? In finding your eyes open; knowing good and evil.’ [Gen. 3:5]
Every religious belief, aside from the Judeo-Christian models, is a product of this lie, from the atheist who rejects any god but himself/herself, to the myriad of non-christian worship-systems, to the overt Satanic rituals.
When you look around at the world you see the overwhelming majority of inhabitants pursuing their own form of Scientology: viewing themselves as equal to any god, rejecting The One True God and His Christ, along with biblical morality, in favor of almost anything. They are refusing to let Anyone or anything dictate how they will live….and make no mistake: this pride is at the heart of all false religions and anti-God sentiment!
Scientology is not the craziest expression of this rebellion, but it comes very close. The Branch Davidians who, several years ago, believed they needed to die in order to link up with their ‘god,’ who was somehow connected to or hiding in the ‘tail’ of the Hale-Bopp Comet, may be worse…..but not by much.
The history of homo-sapien is one of rebellion against the God Who made him. The promise of God is that of peace and sufficiency to all who serve Him. [Ps. 37:25] There is no better life than one which is fully surrendered to God, in Christ!
Such a pursuit may bring serious pain and suffering; poverty and what the world would call a difficult life. The reality, however, would be a life of peace and satisfaction, something the world does not / cannot offer. For what purpose? His Glory! His Purpose! Would that be a bad thing?
The Garden was designed to glorify God. It was truly a Garden of Delights, but with one limitation [only one]: don’t eat that particular fruit!
Those who ate of it were saying they knew better than God what was important; right; beneficial. Nothing has changed. Those of us who do things our way, are saying the same thing. Of course, the alternative is to set our desires aside in favor of what God says is right and good.
Anything less is an effort to be our own god.
