What’s Love Got To Do With It? The Houston Shuffle.

We heard this week about the Houston Mayor, Annise Parker, and council that wants the sermon notes, emails, videos and any negative comments about homosexuality or the mayor herself from five area pastors, be turned over to her.

What we didn’t hear [initially] was that the Mayor is homosexual, as are the two Council Members who joined her….in the words of one news outlet…to’ram through a non-discrimination ordinance that gives special rights and protections to homosexuals and lesbians,” that want to use whatever bathroom they please, regardless of personal plumbing.

All this was done against the vocal wishes of a significant number of Houston residents, 50,000 of which have signed a Petition to put the issue before the Houston voters. Now, the Mayor is saying the subpoena was not their idea, but that of an over-zealous pro-bono lawyer.

All this over “love.” You see, it’s discrimination to deny people the opportunity to pursue the love of their life! This is the way the argument is being framed, because who can argue against love. If two people love one another, you and I are six kinds of evil persons to deny them the privilege of marriage.

I, for one, do not care very much what people do in the privacy of their own home. I do not care at all what sexual orientation anyone may or may not have. I care when it spills out into the broader culture and threatens the very foundation of society. For those of you who were born after 1980, that’s The Family. NO society in the history of mankind has ever survived, let alone prospered, after it embraced homosexual behavior as a civil Right.

Ah, but therein lies the rub: Marriage is a privilege, in our society. It is not a guaranteed right. Siblings cannot marry one another. Parents cannot marry their children. We cannot marry our pets. In fact, we cannot marry at all, without a license.

Every marriage in this country is a Civil Union, sanctioned / permitted by the County in which you live. Once officially permitted, we are free to solemnize that marriage in any number of ways. But, even the ways are limited. For example, your brother-in-law cannot marry you, unless he’s an ordained minister of a recognized religious group, a judge or justice of the peace, etc. When that marriage is finalized the paperwork is filed with the Heatlh Department. [some states may have changed even this, by now]

The Same-Sex Marriage debate is all about 1. Adding a New Right to the Constitution, and 2. Changing the definition of marriage. States are able to do this, if they choose, individuals are not. So, the emotional debate continues, for that’s all it is. We are being shamed into granting a Right to less than 4% of the population, so they can legally protect their individual assets and be able to pass them along, without a serious tax implication, adopt children and be recognized as ordinary [read:normal] families.

None of this sounds too romantic. But, then, there’s very little romance in homosexual behavior. It is more an animalistic urge, since there is no uniting of same-sex beings, in the sense of a marriage. And, because of it’s unnatural nature, homosexual behavior kills at a very high rate.

The Universal Almanac, using statistics from the U.S. Dep’t of Health and Human Services, reports the suicide rate among homosexual teenagers accounts for 80% of all suicides each year. Most folks would automatically think this is because of the persecution or discrimination they face. But wait.

In a time when homosexuality was less acceptable and more stigmatized than now, 73% of psychiatrists said homosexuals were less happy than the average person, and 70% said the unhappiness did NOT come from social stigmatization. [Sexual Survey No. 4: Current Thinking on Homosexuality, Medical Aspects of Human Sexuality, 1977 by H. Lief]

The homosexual debate will continue. People who oppose it will continue to be cast as haters. And people will continue to die horrible, unnatural deaths, all because a small segment of the population wants it this way. Whatever happened to a government instituted to protect citizens….even from themselves?
