We Are Not Alone! So What?

Ouija board
Charlie Davis, writing in “Horizons” [2011], tells of his experiences in a boarding school in Pakistan, when he was 14 years of age. After the Summer Break between 8th and 9th grades, Charlie returned to find his roommates playing with a new game. It was called Ouija Board.

He had no idea what it was or how it worked, and the one they were using was a Home-Made model. One night the roommates gathered around the makeshift board and invited the spirits to answer their questions. And The Did! Fear and amazement swept the room and they asked questions and the bottle cap moved. They were hooked! And they were afraid!!

Night after night this went on. One time the bottle cap they were using to move from letter to letter would not leave the board. No matter how hard they tried or how many tried, it would not budge! Charlie began to sense the presence of evil spirits, crowding around his bed when he slept. He knew they were in trouble, but didn’t know what to do.

In the process of ridding themselves of these spirits they were amazed to find how responsive they were to The Word of God! Reading passages from The Bible would stop them, in their moving about and making noises. They eventually left the dormitory.

What was going on? Did it really happen? Those who have dabbled with Ouija Boards know. The Bible tells us that there are spiritual forces in heavenly places. That we “wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12

This is something no human being has the power to resist, let alone defeat….without help. We are told to put on the armor of God, in order to be able to stand against this onslaught. That armor consists of Salvation, the Truth of God’s Word, the Imputed Righteousness of Christ, Faith and constant Prayer.

As our world descends into moral chaos, it is not because of a lack of education, a selfish orientation, an immoral lifestyle, nor a progressive government. As we dip down, it is because of a lack of spiritual power and preparation. We have become complacent about spiritual things, taking our lives for granted; taking our government for granted; taking our stability for granted.

de Tocqueville said it:”America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” Well, America has ceased to be good. She has become fat and sassy. Her twin gods are Self and The Government. It is from these her citizens expect to be blessed, not the God of Heaven.

What Happened To America? She abandoned her religious roots, not understanding their value because that value was not readily visible. In pagan lands, where demons rule, the danger is clear and present. In Christian America? Not so much. But, as the Ouija Board continues to illustrate, We Are Not Alone!

In America where dozens of varying “Christian” beliefs, Judaism, Islam, Spiritism, Animism, Humanism and Secularism, to name only the major brands, keep us from worrying too much about God, we have grown spiritually complacent. We can worship and serve the One True God of Heaven, or Mother Earth and Father Sky; Souls That Wander, or Evil Spirits That Destroy, or nothing at all and the result is the same.

What this means is: Nothing Is Certain! Everything Is Equally Right / Good! It doesn’t matter what I believe; it doesn’t matter IF I believe anything. The result will be the same: I will live a good life and die satisfied.

Only I don’t! I don’t live good and I don’t die satisfied. Every platform of society is crumbling under my feet. The Family. The Economy. Security. Stability. Nothing is certain except death and taxes. I am adrift in a sea of relativism and hopelessness.

So I play with Ouija Boards, for fun, until I realize this is not a game! Like life, there is always the stark reality when we least expect it. We are not alone! Life is not a game! There are not two ways to Heaven, there is only ONE! Not everything that goes ‘bump’ in the night is Santa Claus!

Now I am really depressed! But I am not alone.
